Sports Media is on the rise as more and more games are being recognized by big corporations like ESPN and FOX Sports. Not only is this a fun hands-on career but you can make 40-80 thousand dollars in a successful career in sports media. Almost everyone has a favorite sport and in today’s environment, that means the sport is being produced and covered by someone to be broadcasted to others. Ranging from Esports to College and sometimes High School sports there is a vast amount of opportunities out there for someone in this Concentration.

Career’s with ESPN, FOX Sports, MSG Network, or even YES Network. At Manhattan College, they have a state-of-the-art production truck that helps their production team broadcast the games to ESPN for fans to watch. Manhattan College is working its way up to the standard seen at bigger schools like Syracuse and Arizona State. Working in a State of the art Production Truck seen on many professional Levels. Although Manhattan College has something those schools don’t, Access to New York City which is always fluttering with Job opportunities and internships for College Graduates.
Joe Ruggerio Professor of the Sports Media Concentration and Game Director mentions in an exclusive interview what it was like to work at the MAAC tournament for the Manhattan Basketball teams, he states that “The Commissioner of the league said they might have us back next year to produce ALL the games because they were so satisfied with what we were doing compared to an outside company that was producing the other half of the games.” This easily shows opportunities that can arise in this career as well as the quality you will be working at in the Manhattan College Sports Media Concentration.
Being a Student in Sports Media
After a sit-down discussion with Junior, Tommy Courtney he tells me about his time in Sports Media since he has started with the Concentration. “It’s been more than amazing working with my team to
produce the games at such a high professional level, it’s very serious in the truck because of the level of professionalism we try to maintain but we have fun which is the best feeling when you’re doing something that you love” It’s a very hands-on experience when working is Sports Media which is the kind of experience you need when looking for a Sports Media Job in the future.
You’ve Got The Tools, Will You Use Them
Right from the beginning and straight to the end you are working in a live environment which is the best way to learn when talking about sports production. Joe Ruggerio says “You can take full advantage of what the Sports Media Concentration has to offer over your four years at college, it’s not like you have to wait two years to get into the program where you finally start working hands-on” This is an important aspect of the concentration because it is so unique and interesting to other Concentrations Manhattan College has to offer.
